Howdy oppo, recently my incredibly troublesome 280zx has been throwing an electrical tantrum most likely do to one (or 100) bad grounds and I’m at end of my wits. Tackling this feels like an insurmountable task and I feel lost and uneducated when it comes to wiring. Honestly the problems and symptoms are so complex, intermittent, and related that I can’t describe them here and forums have been no help, but the headlights won’t come on, radio and heater controls do not work, and the (Brand new) alternator does not charge the battery. If anyone in the northern Colorado area (Fort Collins) wants to come take a look and show me how to use a multi meter ill pay you in beer and eternal gratitude

Electrical issues are the worst. The impala’s right headlight is intermittent. And even had a shop fix it (loose ground) but it’s acting up again.

It doesn’t help that the previous owner relocated the battery and cut stuff off the harness willy nilly

Ugh. So difficult.

The problems might be related but even if they’re not, start with that alternator issue. Do you have a multimeter that you can use? If not, visually check all the major cables and make sure that those connections (battery, alternator, grounds) are clean and tight.

I do have a multimeter but I don’t know anything about how to use it, all the cables are connected but they have some corrosion on them

That corrosion doesn’t sound good. Using a meter would help verify if that was part of the problem, but I think it’d be in your best interest to just clean it up anyway and see if that makes a difference first.
As for that meter, you don’t need to learn how to use every function right now. A voltage drop test ( YouTube can explain it better than I can) would be a good method for tracing power while everything’s still hooked up.
